I think that Tina is right.. the quote on this page is written incorrectly:
It’s supposed to be: “It is better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all”

Hi Tina,

Thanks for asking.

Lord Tennyson said, “It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.” It was written in 1850s after the death of his beloved college mate.

Samuel Butler had paraphrased the above quote in 1903 to “It is better to have loved and lost than never to have lost at all.”

I hope this clarifies the origin and confusion about the quote
